CRA Calls for Increased Efforts to Combat Antisemitism

As a Catholic organisation, CRA recognises the challenges faced by the Catholic community in Australia in coming to grips with centuries of the teaching of contempt in Christian history. The Catholic Church has implemented processes of interfaith reconciliation, healing and constructive change in accord with Catholic teachings since the Second Vatican Council. Much has been achieved, and there is still more to be done. CRA strongly appreciates the need for Australia to increase efforts to combat antisemism and all forms of religious and ethnic hatred, and enhance social cohesion, in a focused and deliberate way.

These efforts must include an openness to the wider spectrum of interfaith relationships. We must work to respect all Faith traditions, to dialogue with all people, of no-faith tradition as well as of the rich diversity of Faith traditions found within the Australian society. In particular, we must stand against antisemitism and Islamophobia so as to build a society which is multi-Faith and multicultural.
